Knut Hamsun: Victoria: the story of one love
In 1894, Knut Hamsun (1859-1952) met his great love, 25-year-old Bergjot Bech, who was married at the time, but divorced and married Hamsun in 1898. He then wrote and dedicated this novel to her, and in 1902 they had a daughter, whom they named Victoria. As soon as it appeared, this "story of one love" was a huge success and remains one of Hamsun's most read books to this day.
