Bučan Jagor

Summary

Jagor Bučan: Word about image

The thematic framework of this exhibition brings together a series of questions related to the problematic scope of its main topic — the relationship between image and language: Is it possible to use language to verify the diverse experience of a painting? Is it possible to present the complex formal structure of the image and its rich content in language? How to present the cause-and-effect links of poietic and technical-technological creation of the image, the hegemony of causality, which we can also call the principle of causal connection? How to express the connection between the experience of the image and the mechanisms by which the image has a calculated effect on us? How can the interpretation encompass all the components that make a painting a meaningful work, but also a work that produces meaning? How, finally, to witness the dimension of the entire work of painting?

Jagor Bučan (1968) is an academic painter and painting teacher with the title of full professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb. He taught the Theory of Space course at ALU in Zagreb (1996-1999) and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Široki Brijeg, Bosnia and Herzegovina (1999-2003). He is the author of art monographs (Albert Kinert, ALU in Zagreb, Art studio Azinović, Zagreb 2002 and Mladen Pejaković, several authors, Litteris, Zagreb 2009), art essays, studies and presentations in professional and scientific publications (professional magazines and anthologies) and forewords to art exhibitions. He edited several monographic editions, among which, in addition to the aforementioned, Diocletian's Palace of the Sun by Mladen Pejaković (Litteris, Zagreb 2006, with Dora Tomulić) and Zlatko Šulentić, also by Mladen Pejaković (Art studio Azinović, Zagreb, 2008, with Tomislav Kršnjavij). He edited and provided an afterword for Albert Kinert's book of records (Monolog, ALU in Zagreb, Zagreb 2016). He wrote the foreword to Jadranka Damjan's Bestijarij — from tradition to art and back (Sipar, Zagreb 2008). In the magazines Europski glasnik and ZaJedno, he published several essays and presentations.
