The Ruler by Niccolo Machiavelli was written in 1513 and represents the main manifesto of political realism, against which stands Thomas More's Utopia from 1516, which is the main modern manifesto of political utopianism. Modern political science - political science of the twentieth century - built its methods of empirical investigation of political problems precisely starting from the objective truth of things, separating morality from politics, which is precisely why Machiavelli is considered the founder and forerunner. The first part of the book catalogs different types of monarchies and the way in which they can be established and maintained, the second describes the role of the army in preserving the rule, the third the qualities and characteristics of an efficient ruler, while the last, the fourth contains an account of the historical circumstances in Italy.
