The book has eleven chapters. In the first seven, the reader will find notes and observations made during my virtual visits to ceremonies in Banja Luka and Belgrade in honor of the Republika Srpska, and the remaining four await additional explanations and interpretations of what was seen and written down, which should show the relevance of these observations of mine for the discussion of the political and social problems we face today not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in other places, in more and more places where solemn and spectacular stagings of political power have more importance than political institutions. Or, to put it more briefly, I tried to convince myself and my reader that, by attending the ceremony described here as an uninvited guest, I was not wasting my time.
