Nenad Makuljević: Memory and manipulation: monument policy in Serbia 1989-2021
Nenad Makuljević is a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. His main areas of research include the relationship between art and politics, Serbian art of the 19th century, Balkan visual culture, art historiography, and Ottoman Christian-Jewish contacts in visual culture. Makuljević received his doctorate at the University of Belgrade in 2004. He published, among other things, the books Art and national idea in the 19th century: the system of European and Serbian visual culture in the service of the nation, Belgrade: Institute for textbooks and teaching aids in 2006 and Ottoman-Serbian Belgrade: visuality and the creation of the city's identity (1815-1878), Belgrade: Topy 2014. Makuljević is a participant in several scientific meetings and international projects, such as Media and Memoria - Cultural Scientific Network for Southeast Europe Studies organized by Tanja Zimmermann – Universität Konstanz and RICONTRANS, Visual culture, piety and propaganda: transmission and reception of Russian religious art in the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean, ERC Consolidator Grant 2018.
