Summary
Vojko Gorjanc: It's not a dictionary for a peasant
The study It's not a dictionary for a peasant brings insight into lexicography and lexicographic descriptions from the aspect of critical linguistics, primarily critical analysis of discourse and linguistics, thereby including it in discussions within the framework of critical lexicography. It presents research on the position of dictionaries in society and their understanding in various cultural contexts, both from the point of view of the lay public and lexicographers and linguists. He also reveals their ideological nature by analyzing dictionary descriptions. Dictionary descriptions are the interpretation of discursive reality through the eyes of a lexicographer, the capture of unstable meaning that constantly changes in discourse, so they are always a lexicographic approximation - and at the same time an interpretation, so it is logical that lexicographic work is far from anything that could be objective.
