Summary
Ivan Krastev: With faith in distrust
Written as a "piece of music in the style of jazz", the book by world-renowned Bulgarian researcher Ivan Krastev analyzes contemporary democracy, viewing it not as an ideal or a set of institutions but as a collective consciousness. Krastev tries to explain to us why citizens have lost trust in democracy, following its development through the influence of global social, political, economic, technological and cultural changes in the past few decades.
Voters do not believe that their vote really matters for the governance of their country, even when they agree that the elections are free and fair. People are finding less and less reason to vote. Or, to put it another way, they find more and more reasons to vote with blank ballots.
