Perhaps it is best to begin this story about Alexander the Great, as well as the authors of this work themselves. Already at the very beginning, illustrating Alexander through a well-known anecdote from his life. According to her, Alexander wept when he heard the philosopher Anaxarchus talk about the infinite number of worlds in the cosmos. When asked by a friend why he was crying, Alexander replied, "There are so many worlds, and I haven't conquered this one yet." The book first contains a short history of the Greco-Persian conflicts, campaigns and battles of Philip II. of Macedonia and all known campaigns of Alexander. In addition to numerous and attractive maps and tables, one of the special importance of this work is that it introduces readers to the world of ancient battles in an impressive way, showing how organized the armies of ancient nations were.
