Ludwig Salvator von Habsburg, scientist and explorer (Florence, 4.VIII.1847 – Brandýs na Laba, Czech Republic, 12.X.1915). Son of Grand Duke Leopold II. Habsburg-Lorraine in Tuscany and Austr. archduke. He studied philosophy, law, natural sciences and art in Prague. He dedicated his life to the famous. researches of the Mediterranean. He is the author and publisher of more than 50 works, which he illustrated himself (encyclopedic monographs, travelogues, language treatises), among which Die Balearen (1869–84), Yachtreise in den Syrthen (1873), Die liparischen Inseln (1893–96), Parga (1907) and Lose Blätter aus Abbazia (1886). He was an honorary member of six academies of science and about thirty famous. institution and sponsor known. and art. projects. Co-founder and member → k. in. k. Yachtgeschwader. He lived in Mallorca and from 1876 in Zindis (Milje).
