Summary

Marko Pištalo: Historical and canonical conditions for the restoration of the Patriarchate of Peć in 1920

Marko Pištalo's manuscript talks about the complex processes of a long duration and complex nature that led to the restoration of the Patriarchate of Peć in 1920, that is, to the unification of the Serbian Orthodox Church - which is an important, complex and current topic, burdened with numerous controversial interpretations. Until the appearance of this work, there was no reliable knowledge about this topic, or there was insufficient knowledge. Claims prevailed that only partially corresponded to the historical truth, and in many aspects contradicted scientific research and its results. The research conducted by Pištalo rests on the desire and need of scientists to know the past "as it really was". The results presented in the study *Historical and canonical conditions for the restoration of the Patriarchate of Peć in 1920* are based on research conducted using the scientific method of historical science and were communicated in a rational way and in the language of science. In contrast, many interpretations of the past are usually subordinated to current state, political, religious, national, personal... rather than scientific interests. Therefore, they are most often characterized by one-sidedness, selective selection of historical sources and facts, their tendentious interpretation and the intention to justify the presented positions with a "distorted" picture of the past. In particular, it should be pointed out that research and interpretations of the past offer two parallel, more or less different images of the past reality, but also suggest different perceptions of the present. The scientific approach of Marko Pištal - which we consider the special value of this manuscript - aims at researching the past and its rational perception and presentation.
