Jovanka Broz - Titova suvladarica

Matunović Aleksandar

Summary

Aleksander Matunović: Jovanka Broz - Tito's co-ruler

Matunović points out that Broz had an extremely sharp sixth sense when it came to decisions. It may be ironic, but at the end the reader has the feeling that his sixth sense betrayed him when he decided to marry Jovanka. It was an attractive lure for the young woman from Ličan, but also for Broz, who slowed down his aging with that wedding. As it turned out, the slowest old communist who has the power of the bourgeois. Matunović portrays Broz in such a perspective: as bright and stained at the same time. And he was able to do it because doctors are allowed what others are forbidden: to ask and find out the answers without consequences. However, it was an "account without a co-owner". She wanted the doctor to be on her side in every case and respect. Aleksandar Matunović, probably because of his character and understanding of the professional code, had a somewhat more significant role than Tito's other doctors and all other court staff. It seems that he was quite a lonely man among the court retinue. His medical and character strength for a long time found fertile ground with Tito, but the president repeatedly succumbed to his wife's incredible perseverance. She saw the doctor as a necessary evil, and at best a help on the way to the goal. Matunović did not leave the court because of the co-ruler, but because of his patron - most likely because of the new candidate for co-ruler. And she wanted a doctor on her side.
