Summary
Milko Riffer: City of the Dead - Jasenovac 1943.
The banned edition of the book about the Jasenovac camp. This book by the economist Milko Riffer (Osijek, 1908 - Aigen, Austria, 1972), who was imprisoned in Jasenovac from October 15, 1942 to October 15, 1943, was published in Zagreb immediately after the war. In a large circulation, but stifled by censorship (the main censor was a prison inmate from Jasenovac!), with almost no echo. It was kept quiet probably for the same reasons for which it was censored: Riffer's vision of the camp, although gruesome, did not match the officially imposed one.
