Summary
Daniel Glavan, Ivan Sršen: The History of Zagreb Libraries
Our intention was to revive the zeitgeist of important periods for the history of Zagreb libraries", the authors write in the foreword of the book, and add that the books stored in libraries are material proof of the permanence and stability of the cultural identity of the city of Zagreb. They note that Zagreb's libraries are an inexhaustible material that requires careful research and emphasize that libraries as institutions show a different course of time. They believe that commercial libraries are not institutions that note that, despite the lack of money and funds for the purchase of new books, many libraries in Zagreb survived. The book "History of Zagreb Libraries - Cultural Introduction" (199 pages) is divided into four chapters, in which the authors write about libraries as an uninterrupted nursery of culture, and in the remaining chapters they deal specifically with the Metropolitan, National, University and City Libraries.
