Summary
Boris Cyrulnik: Autobiography of a Scarecrow
Boris Cyrulnik is a prominent French neuropsychiatrist and professor at the University of Toulon. He has written several books that have been extremely well received by the readership and have been translated into numerous languages. We mention only a few: Happiness in misfortune, Ugly ducklings, About body and soul, Talking about love on the edge of the abyss.
He is known as the creator of the concept of resilience. Resilience is not some kind of path to success, but the struggle of a child who was pushed into the arms of death, and who still found a way to resist and continue living. The film, therefore, does not begin with some failure, but is about unpredictable events, unusual and often novel solutions to the problems faced by the main character.
Creating a "story about yourself" fills the void that hinders the creation of identity. By creating a picture, an inner connection is given to the events, a wound that was suffered without personal fault is healed, thus some terrible injustice. The story is not a return to the past, it is a reconciliation with oneself.
Boris Cyrulnik presented the life paths of several children from different cultures, who suffered some great trauma, children whom others usually call "scarecrows". He became, in a way, their "biographer". He showed how these children managed to overcome severe suffering and living wounds, thus gaining the strength necessary for a new, fulfilling life
