Summary
Regis Debray: An Introduction to Mediology
Unlike media sociology, with which it is sometimes confused, mediology studies the interdependence that existed both in the past and today between technology and culture. It is about confronting or, more precisely, reconciling two traditionally and fatally opposing areas.
The importance of mediology is reflected in highlighting the needs of transmission in relation to the requirements imposed by communication. Rehabilitating the reign of longevity, threatened by the obsessive conquest of space, becomes the most important civilizational task. Mediological procedures, among others, can contribute to this.
In this book, a new research field finds its first interpretations, with a critical review of its assumptions and environment. It is a stimulating and accessible synthesis, which will be useful not only to students, but also to everyone who is simply interested in this field.
