Summary
Hans Küng: The Catholic Church: A Brief History
The history of the Catholic Church, as presented here by the famous theologian Hans Küng, is significantly different from other accounts. The rise of the Roman Catholic Church to the strongest and most powerful representative of Christianity, with all its failures and deviations from reforms, is described in a superb and extremely knowledgeable manner, and this development was followed by the Inquisition, the burning of witches and the Crusades. But Küng also refers to the great potential of Catholicism, to its cultural reach, charitable leanings, global orientation - in order to arrive at a convincing perspective regarding future possibilities and the reforms that seem necessary at the beginning of the third millennium.
