Approximately 100,000 words and about 100,000 phrases and idioms are covered on 1,435 pages. The choice of words and phrases follows the development of the English language in both its varieties, British and American. The dictionary has three appendices: English and American abbreviations (more than 4,000 abbreviations from all fields), Pronunciation of proper and geographical names (more than 7,000 names), and Irregular verbs (listed in three basic forms with the pronunciation and meaning of the infinitive form).
