Summary
Miloš Timotijević: Dragiša Vasić and Serbian National Ideology
National identity and the meaning of sacrifice for the homeland were the basic issues that Dragiša Vasić discussed in his artistic work and journalistic work, which was also an incentive for active political activity and attempts to change society both in peace and in war.
Most intellectuals chose withdrawal and silence in turning historical periods, trying to survive biologically, to avoid the loss of family, property and social position. They also avoided the temptations of making political and military decisions, which imply personal sacrifice, but also violence, and then the possibility of risking suffering the consequences of such actions. Dragiša Vasić was not such a person, and his decisions were strongly influenced by a clearly formed Serbian national identity, the creation and development of which was conditioned by many factors (family, homeland, status, religious).
