Gichin Funakoshi: Karate Do - My Life Path
Connecting the time when karate was a strictly Okinawan self-defense art shrouded in the greatest secrecy and today when it has become a martial art practiced all over the world, Gichin Funakoshi, the "father of karate-do", described his exciting life path in this book. Modest by nature, he hesitated about this autobiography until he was ninety years old. Educated in the Confucian classics, he was a school teacher in his youth, but after a decade of studying with top martial arts masters, he left his job and devoted the rest of his life to propagating the way of karate (karate do). Under his leadership, the techniques and nomenclature of karate were perfected and modernized, the spiritual essence was put in the foreground, and karate evolved into a true martial art.
