Summary
Jose Martinez Ruiz Azorin: The Route of Don Quixote
The book was originally published in 1905 as a series of fifteen newspaper chronicles, on the occasion of the celebration of the three hundredth anniversary of the publication of the first part of "Don Quixote". The author, equipped with a suitcase, a pistol, a pen and a notebook, took the train from Madrid to La Mancha to follow the itinerary of the famous "bright knight". For fifteen days he visited the cities, walked their streets, talked to the locals and recorded his observations. He thus presented the readers with a tangible picture of the contemporary space that Cervantes fictionalized in his time, offering at the same time an ironic vision as expected from a "sharp humorist", at the same time somewhat identifying with Quixote himself and even asking himself "Is life a monotonous, inexorable repetition of the same things with different appearances?"
