Summary

Beasts and Creatures: Myths and Tales

Beasts and creatures of a completely different nature can be found in every culture; stories about them often express moral principles or explain natural phenomena. The new collection includes both famous and lesser-known stories: from the North American Bigfoot to the Phoenix of the ancient Greeks, from Norse bogeymen to elves, ghosts, mermaids and snakes from many traditions. A truly wonderful treasure trove of stories!

There are few stories that stand the test of time and that manage to survive, more or less in an unchanged form, until modern times. There are few antagonists who have succeeded in surpassing the protagonists in popularity. Or perhaps better said, there are few of those beings and creatures that made various mythological heroes famous, that moved from folk tales to dusty books, and later found their place in a movie, comic book or even a tattoo. Creatures and beasts of world mythologies had and still have special significance and symbolism that reflects cultural beliefs, but also fears. No matter how much they were feared throughout history, without them the cultural heritage of almost every nation would be simply - hollow.

Among other things - these creatures were a symbol of power and strength. Let's just take for example the dragon, before which many heroes and even saints faced each other in mythologies and stories, whose hagiographies are filled with encounters with these creatures, which are, of course, evil personified. Giants also represented strength and dominance, they were a symbol of something that people admired but also feared.
