Grgo Gamulin: Eugen Kokot

Eugen Kokot was born on February 9, 1940 in Labin. In Zagreb, he graduated from the School of Applied Arts, painting department. He graduated in 1966 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, department of painting, in the class of prof. Raul Goldoni. From 1966 to 1970, he was an associate of Krsto Hegedušić's master workshop.

Since 1968, he has been a member of the Labinski ateliers and Atelier Brezovica. He made copies of Istrian frescoes in 1969, and in 1973/1974. copies of Beram frescoes for permanent display. He realized the conceptual and practical solution of the Matija Vlačić Memorial Collection - Illyricum in Labin in 1975. Since 1979, he has been a member of the Forum Gallery in Zagreb. He conserved and restored 9 large-format oil paintings for the permanent exhibition of the Sacred Art Collection in Labin.

From 1981 to 1985, he was a professor of drawing and graphic design at the School of Applied Arts in Zagreb. Since 1985, he has been an assistant at the Academy of Fine Arts, since 1991 he has been an associate professor, and since 1994 he has been a full professor at the Department of Painting.

In addition to painting, he is engaged in graphics (he has published three graphic maps: Fugue in the Landscape, Magical Rhythms of the Earth and Underground Horizons), restoration of cultural monuments, book design and illustration.

He has organized a number of solo and group exhibitions since in 1967 in the country and abroad. He is a participant in several painting colonies. He studied in Italy, Austria, Germany, Sweden, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, China, Egypt, England, Greece and Israel.

His works are in the collections of museums and galleries in Croatia. He is the recipient of numerous awards, recognitions, certificates of appreciation and decorations for his artistic activity. He is a member of Matica hrvatska and HDLU in Zagreb.
