Summary
Ruben Pater: The Politics of Design: The (Not So) Global Handbook of Visual Communication
Design is never neutral! It is always placed in a certain context of power, culture and ideology. Every choice of color, symbol, font, icon reveals who the design serves, who it addresses, and who it excludes. Understanding design as a political act means accepting the call for critical thinking and responsibly taking an active role in the fight against banality and manipulation, in order to find much-needed alternatives in the field of visual culture and social reality. Ruben Pater is a Dutch designer who creates visual narratives about complex political issues. Through his work, he deals with solidarity, justice and equality, trying to create new perspectives of complex social and political reality.
