The building of the Croatian Parliament, the Cathedral, Manduševac, Harmica, Jelačić Square, the Art Pavilion, the Mimara Museum, Maksimir, Zagreb's cafes are just some of the recognizable iconic places and buildings in Zagreb, the foundations of the city's identity. Historiography, i.e. the detailed reconstruction of these and other iconic Zagreb monuments created in the second half of the 19th century, as well as the entire urban planning and design of Zagreb at that time, are the subject of selected, extremely important studies by Olga Maruševski, in which the history of Croatian fine arts, civic culture, and social and political life strongly relied on the changes in Vienna and Budapest.
Olga Maruševski (1922-2008), historian of art and culture, in a series of studies and books she covered the key chapters of Croatian art and culture of the 19th century and asserted herself as one of the most reliable interpreters of that period.
