Summary
Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski: Jure Glović nicknamed Julijo Klovio - Croatian miniature painter
Juraj Julije Klović, known in Italian as Giorgio Giulio Clovio - Croata, was a Croatian painter and miniaturist, also known as the Michelangelo miniature. Twenty-six years ago, in the second book "Archive for Yugoslav History", I first published the biography of Julio Klović, which was also specially printed in a separate volume. This biography was translated into German in the same year (1852) by the late Makso Prica, and the same translation was used by many foreigners, mostly German and Italian writers, who wrote anything about our miniature painter. In 1858, I published for the second time a slightly more extensive chronicle of Klodovik in the second volume of my "Dictionary of Yugoslav Artists", and in 1868 it was printed in the second volume of the work I published "Life of South Slavic Artists". This summer, three hundred years after Klodovic's death, the Croatian people wanted to celebrate the memory of their immortal artist, and "Matica Hrvatska" also responded to this national desire, as soon as it decided to republish Klodovic's chronicle in a splendid edition, in commemoration of the three hundredth anniversary, entrusting me with the honorable commission to write that chronicle.
