Summary
Janko Matko: Fisherman and the sea
Pero, the son of a fisherman from Korčula, a beautiful and strong young man, stared at the girl Jurica whom he wanted to marry. After at a party driven by jealousy he broke up the hall and dispersed the attendees, in fear of the authorities he fled to Dubrovnik, where his brothers lived. In Dubrovnik, he enters into a relationship with Ana, a girl he doesn't love, and because of that, he leaves his brothers and goes to work as a coral diver in order to earn money for the wedding. A letter from his mother informing him that Ana is expecting his child changes his fate and he goes to Dubrovnik to marry Ana. Shortly after the wedding, Ana falls seriously ill and remains paralyzed, and Pero contracts a dangerous disease. In order to heal, he takes his family to Split, and then to Vir, where they settle permanently. There, daughter Jela grows up into a beautiful girl and an excellent fisherman, with whom the young peasant Bogdan falls in love. On the day of the wedding, Pero banishes the groom and the wedding guests, which results in the serious accident of his daughter...
