Summary
Annie Besant: Esoteric Christianity or Lesser Mysteries
All religions have their mysteries and it seems that without them there would be no religion, wrote Montesque. The Christian religion developed in antiquity, at the time of the great schools of philosophy, amid a pantheon of many gods and what the church fathers called ambient paganism. At that time, religion was organized on two levels. The first level, the so-called exoterics, was available to everyone, that is to laymen, and the second level, the so-called esoterics, enabled, as a result of initiation tests, access to secret truths. Esoteric Christianity is the study and research of this second level of understanding of the Christian religion. Annie Bessant brilliantly combines general concepts with her well-argued decipherment of the scriptures. In addition to being based on theosophical principles, with a certain neutrality it enables the faithful to see the existence of another level of understanding through the analysis of the main Christian positions, as well as to offer laymen the opportunity to penetrate into the esoteric reading of the New Testament.
