Summary
Walter Leslie Wilmshurst: Contemplations
The first edition of this book was published in 1914. The contents of that edition have now been reprinted, but with the addition of a number of further studies which double the volume. Except for the last two essays, all of the content was published in The Seeker, a quarterly magazine of Christian mysticism which was published under the editorship of W. L. Wilmshurst until 1919, when it was discontinued due to the hardships of the First World War. The content is mostly interpretations, from a Christian mystical point of view, of spiritual themes and periods of crisis and transition that society is constantly going through; periods that begin but by no means end with wars. In surveying the process, at once shocking and reconstructive, of what is described in these pages as "the present Passover" from the old to the new age, new conditions of social life and expanded spiritual perception, these contemplative studies of deeper questions can hopefully be of great benefit to those involved.
