A kao Andromeda

Hoyle Fred

Summary

Fred Hoyle: And like Andromeda

Kentaur Library.

Fred Hoyle, the controversial English cosmologist, creator of the contested theory of the stationary universe, is the author of an equally controversial SF opus. His works are full of brilliant ideas, scientifically well founded and explained. The dark side of the opus is the weak literary "equipment" (flat, black-and-white characters, predictable and ideologically burdened plots, and the author's dear thesis, basically anti-democratic, that the management of society should be left to the elite of scientists). The novel "A like Andromeda" (1962) is the template for the popular TV series of the same name, which Hoyle wrote together with John Elliott. By means of radio signals from space, scientists from Earth establish CONTACT WITH EXTENSIVE INTELLIGENCE. In the atmosphere of bloc tension and bureaucratic intrigues, scientists manage to decipher a message - an instruction for creating a HUGE COMPUTER.
