Summary
Chanakya: A treatise on morality: Niti Sastra
A treatise on state and social development, intended for kings and court pandits (learned advisors). It covers topics such as: duties of the king; qualities needed to become a minister; planned village construction; tax collection, appropriate penalties for law breakers; spy training; how to declare war and conclude peace; protection of citizens and others. Çanak's Niti-sastra ("Writing on Morality") is the second most famous work of this learned court advisor to King Chandragupta. In Sanskrit, the word "niti" is variously translated as "moral science", "common sense", "utility", "practicality", or as "morality". And this means that the work before us contains prudent wisdom that we can successfully apply in our daily lives and thus help ourselves to be happier and more satisfied. Çanakya taught us that even the greatest ideas can become reality if we act intelligently, decisively and practically to reach the desired goal.
