Our history books deal with vanished peoples and cultures mostly only when they are of interest for the political and cultural development of modern Europe. What supposedly or really did not leave a lasting mark on the history of Europe is often ignored or, at best, given the role of a mysterious stepchild and treated as a curiosity of cultural history.
