Kraj kapitalizma: zašto rast i zaštita klime ne idu zajedno - i kako ćemo živjeti u budućnosti

Herrmann Ulrike

Summary

Ulrike Herrmann: The end of capitalism: why growth and climate protection do not go together - and how we will live in the future

The climate crisis caused by economic growth threatens the future of life on earth, and there is no doubt that its cause is precisely the capitalist social order that generates extreme inequality around the world. In Germany, only twelve percent of people believe that they benefit from the current economic system, but the alternatives do not sound good. Namely, the current level of technology development does not allow the sun and wind to be the only energy sources that will meet the growing needs for electricity, and nuclear energy is very controversial and expensive. Can industrialized countries say goodbye to capitalism and switch to a circular economy without tectonic disruptions, is the question posed by German journalist Ulrike Herrmann in the excellent non-fiction book The End of Capitalism. With an in-depth but simply presented history of capitalism, Herrmann analyzes the options available to contemporary 21st century society and what the future holds if we have to forego growth for survival.
