Summary

Robert Jacobs, Richard Chase: Operations and Supply Chain Management

The only book on the market that addresses operations and supply chain management. It provides an innovative approach to services and the integration of modern supply chain management.

The supply chain has only recently been studied in the Republic of Croatia. There is almost no literature, and the need for it is getting bigger and bigger. In contacts with people from practice, it is learned that this is a very unexplored area, and the problem is that people who deal with it should listen to some economic, computer, mathematical and traffic courses.

This top book covers all the necessary elements from the mentioned areas in a very targeted, systematic, concise and clear way. In many colleges, Operations Management and Supply Chain Management courses are taught separately, so it can serve as literature for both courses. The theory is illustrated with examples from practice, which is very useful for students, but also for people who are in practice and who have decided to further their education.

The book contains more than sixty photos and two hundred illustrations to improve the visual appeal of the book and clarify the content of the text even more. Many of the photos illustrate additional examples of companies that use operations and supply chain concepts in their business. Definitions and key terms, an overview of formulas and solved problems are highlighted in the margins to facilitate the adoption of the entire text. Examples from practice serve as an introduction and motivation at the beginning of each chapter.

In the first part, the authors discuss the strategy and its sustainability, emphasizing the value of good operations and organized supply chains. The second part is dedicated to production, services and processes in healthcare, and the authors elaborate on topics such as strategic capacity management, workplace analysis and quality management. In the third part, the authors highlight the importance of the supply chain, citing various strategies and potential problems, and touch on topics such as logistics, location, distribution, etc. The fourth part of the book is dedicated to supply and demand planning in various departments and strategies for more successful planning. In the fifth part, there are contributions that present real problems in the field of management of production operations and supply chains.
