Summary
Radovan Pejanović: Highlanders and Vojvodina
"Olive tree", a metaphor for roots (tradition) speaks of who we belong to, culturally, geographically, anthropologically, historically, religiously, linguistically. This book is exactly the "olive tree" of a nation that has its own distant, proud and rich history, intertwined with constant migrations, as if it were its destiny. The collective identity of that nation is traditional - based on a strong connection with its motherland. The elements of that identity - history, culture, religion and language have mostly been preserved. The history of Vojvodina is similar to the history of Montenegro, and it is characterized by the constant struggle of a small nation for survival and freedom, to preserve its cultural identity.
In addition to numerous lessons and knowledge, the goal of this book is to show how social groups in different cultures create the meaning of their lives. Show the similarities and differences of cultural values in our region. Two parallel identities - from Durmitor and from Bačka - created and create "creative friction" in the author, close to the "creative challenge", the desire to overcome the local, provincial, to critically review the cultural heritage, which is especially important and necessary for us today.
