Summary
Johan Gottfried Herder: Ideas for the Philosophy of Humanity
We have before us a book that has waited an unusually long time for its translation. From today's perspective, we are left with only astonishment at the fact that Herder's Ideas were published in a Serbian translation almost two and a half centuries after the first edition. Namely, our collective memory owes as many stimulating impulses to a small-minded thinker from the German-speaking world as it does to Herder. The first steps towards recognizing the artistic value and European relevance of our cultural heritage were made by none other than Herder. It was his work on collecting and translating folk songs that sparked enthusiasm on a wider scale, without which the modern character of the language would simply be unimaginable.
