Summary
Ruđer Josip Bošković: Les Eclipses, Poeme en six chants
Bošković's main poetic work is a comparative translation into French of his work De Solis ac Lunae defectibus, which was printed in London in 1760. This most extensive comparative French and Latin edition was supplemented by Bošković with another 207 hexameters that he dedicated to Louis XVI, so that now the epic contains 5828 hexameters, and it is accompanied by Bošković's notes and extensive interpretations to make it more understandable. In it, he interprets the cosmological, natural and mythological phenomena of solar and lunar eclipses in elegant hexameters through the prism of the theoretical positions of Newton, Kepler, Copernicus, etc.
Dedication to Louis XVI + 4 pages. Introduction by the translator de Barruel + 540 pages. Excellent condition.
