Summary

editors: Dragica Vujadinović, Zorana Antoijević: Gender equality in higher education. Concepts, practices and challenges

The collection Gender equality in higher education: concepts, directions and challenges presents in a correct, ingenious and scientifically based way the theoretical assumptions of the implementation of gender equality and examples of the development of gender and education in case studies from other cultures and disciplines, but also by following diachronic studies in our society.
Education, its contents and practices encourage the reproduction of patriarchal gender relations, but are at the same time key drivers of transformation gender regime, democratization and modernization of society. Fertility of higher education, i.e. introduction of a gender perspective in all its segments, is one of the key conditions for eliminating gender inequalities. Achieving this goal is possible if the patriarchal matrix in education is reduced, and the emancipatory policy becomes widespread in practice.

Prof. Vladislava Gordić Petković, Ph.D.

Excellent thematically rounded, this collection has one basic goal: to provide an overview of the process of development and institutionalization of gender in the field of higher education. Although it could be argued that all the texts contribute to this goal in different ways, it is possible to separate several units among them. The first part includes texts that show "the path that has been traveled", that is, the state of the field, presenting historical dis/continuities, the spaces where women's/gender studies developed in our country and asking important questions about how and why they developed in that way. In the broadest sense, this volume offers concepts that have been used and must be taken into account when approaching the determination and evaluation of the effects of gender studies in these areas. The second group includes those texts that try to understand what the fruition of higher education means - both those who propose to start this process, and those who critically review what has been done. This also includes texts that try to assess the effect of fecundity and feminist theories and practices on certain spheres of knowledge, such as economics and judicial practices. This unit covers practices - attempts to change existing structures, normative frameworks, policies and culture in which gender inequality could become the norm. The third part includes texts that consider the challenges faced by fertility all over the world, such as gender segregation and the gender gap, especially in the STEM system of science.
