Summary
Dominique Moisi: Geopolitics of television series
In the era of globalization, the television series as a genre has become perhaps the only universal, if not indispensable cultural reference for anyone who would try to study the emotions of the world. Just as it is impossible to understand the world without the dimension of emotions, today the question arises whether it is even possible to truly understand the emotions of the world without watching television series.
Television drama series have not only become the equivalent of what feuilletons were in the 19th century, that is, the main determinant of culture. Screenwriters of television series, at least the best ones, can be compared to the best novelists of that time, from Balzac, through Dickens to one Flaubert. They are not satisfied with a cold analysis of reality. With the power of intuition, courage and lucidity of their imagination, they feel and predict this reality. In fact, screenwriters of television series have become the best analysts of society and the modern world, if not the most reliable futurologists.
U svojoj prethodnoj knjizi, Geopolitika emocija: kako kulture straha, poniženja i nade utječu na oblikovanje svijeta, prvi put objavljenoj 2008. godine i kasnije više puta preštampavanoj, autor je nastojao mapirati emocije u svijetu. This new essay on the geopolitics of television drama series is a continuation and update of his earlier thoughts.
