Summary
Charles Webb: The Graduate
The cult film The Graduate by Mike Nichols from 1967, starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft, is probably known to every average movie fan; at least twice as many know the famous "movie" song Mrs Robinson by Simon & Garfunkel; but at the same time, at least twice as many know about the superior original - Charles Webb's prestigious novel from 1963. The seductive appeal and interest of The Graduate even today, in addition to the excellent text, probably lies in the fact that he anticipated the ferments that at the end of the 60s would give rise to rebellious social movements and upheavals, "flower children", sexual, musical and all kinds of revolutions and changes. seductress, sung by Mrs. Robinson. Charles Webb masterfully transformed the apparently banal and countless times elaborated love plot into a layered and intriguing, and at the same time witty and easy to read. Along with the coming-of-age story, the author refers to the youth's rebellion against excessive parental expectations and their desire to conform their children to their vain stereotypes.
Basically, another excellent but forgotten novel plucked from the world literature by The Colorful Shop - for pleasure, but also for fun, because let's not forget: this is first and foremost a lover "deep down in the soul"!
