Summary
Jana Krišković Baždarić: The year in which Bela Lang met happiness
The plot of the novel follows the path of the main character Bela Lang towards self-realization and major life changes for which she constantly seems to be waiting too long. As a journalist for a local newspaper, she has long felt trapped in a life that was previously her own choice, but which has trapped her with its stale permanence and security in which she is slowly but surely losing the best part of herself. On an ordinary morning, a seemingly random e-mail triggers changes in her life for which she will have to ask herself for the first time whether she is even ready for them. Deciding to accept a business offer from a famous New York magazine, she embarks on an uncertain life journey full of detours and seemingly illogical situations and events, which will complete the puzzle of her aspirations with some invisible threads. On Bela's path, she also finds an inexplicable love for a famous jazz musician, which is intertwined until the very end with her effort to free herself from fear and the shackles of her environment and find herself. The main character, Bela Lang, is a young woman, and her search is not limited to the "right" one, but is largely adapted to the contemporary aspirations of young women - how to find yourself, your life path and how to break free from the uncomfortable security of life, realize your potential and, ultimately, find your happiness.
