In this first Croatian fairy tale, the fairy tales that were just scattered heritage were finally found in one place and under one name. In that book, 100 of the most beautiful Croatian fairy tales, about fairies, witches, devils, dragons, giants, dwarves, or animals, were selected and discussed. It was tried to be the best, woven from all motifs, and to be from all regions. Half of the fairy tales are told by Croatian narrators outside their homeland. Most of them are completely unknown to our readers, in fact, without translation into the Croatian literary language, few of them would be readable. And in order for the more eager to get drunk at the source, we have added an anthology of 25 fairy tales in their original form. In the adaptation, Jozo Vrkić, on the other hand, removed the succinctness and picturesqueness of the folk expression, renewed the dialogues so that they gurgle with the book like an enchanted stream, emphasized the crime and romance and interwoven adventure and wit. Thus, by reading Croatian fairy tales in one breath, you will experience their fairy-likeness to the fullest: marvelous diversity in astonishing unity. And a nation without a fairy tale is a child without a mother!
