Summary
Aleksandar Tišma: Book about Blam
The book About Blam tells about the tragic fate of the Jews of Novi Sad and one survivor, thanks to conversion, Miroslav Blam. The book follows the identification of the hero with the victim, the maturing of the hero's consciousness that, in spite of everything or just because of everything, he is destined to be a victim. That's why Miroslav Blam, wandering the streets, invokes death in order to overcome shame. On the ethical level, the Book of Blame opened up an important topic - coming to terms with the past by confronting it, that is, identifying with moments when moral decisions could have been made, but were not. With the book about Blam, Tišma boldly opens a new chapter on the subject of the Holocaust, which marks the last three decades of European literature.
