Rosie and Alex were best and inseparable friends from the age of five to seventeen, growing up in Dublin. Alex goes to Boston, studies medicine at Harvard, marries and divorces, becomes a famous heart surgeon. Rosie stayed, gave birth to Katie, fulfilled her dream of running a hotel, got married and divorced. For thirty years, they have maintained their friendship through letters, messages, and e-mails. Although they love each other, they refuse to admit it until finally Alex sends a decisive letter in which he declares his love for her and begs her to give him a chance and return his love, and until one morning he just shows up at her door.
