Summary
Guy Helmihger: The New Brazil
In the spring of 1828, a group of Luxembourg peasants, among them the young and self-aware Josette, set off into the world. They leave behind all their possessions and join the stream of emigrants who are fed up with the ever-changing rulers and poor living conditions. Their goal: Brazil. People are needed there, they can start a new life there. One hundred and seventy years later, at the end of the 20th century, the little girl Tiha arrives with her mother and other Montenegrin refugees in Luxembourg - they also left their homeland and followed a vague promise. The promise will not be fulfilled for any of them, but for Tiha, who matures into a teenager abroad, and for Josette, who does not arrive in Brazil, but still finds her own way, there is no going back to the old life...
