Summary
Tove Ditlevsen : Addiction
The third and final part of the Copenhagen Trilogy is upon us. After his poetic breakthrough, Tove writes a novel that delights the literary public. She is crowned with laurels and all doors are open to her at once. However, in private life, she is torn between a strong urge for motherhood and the comfortable security of her marriage to a much older cultural figure. As always, she makes decisions quickly, does not want to wait, and embarks on a new relationship in which she realizes the fullness of family life. It seems that everything is arranged exactly as it should be - career, material status, personal happiness. But... And it is this "but" that turns the whole pastoral picture upside down and Tove faces his inner demons in the ugliest way. After careless experimentation with opiates, he is brought into a state of addiction, with which, after a painful and convulsive struggle, he will come to an end... Or maybe he won't...? Tove Ditlevsen amazes us once again with his elegant style, sincerity and power of penetrating into the most hidden corners of intimacy.
