Summary
Jane Austen: Sense and Sensibility
Sense and Sensibility is Jane Austen's first published novel, published in 1811 under the pseudonym "The Lady".
This work of romantic fiction, better known as a comedy of manners, takes place in south-west England, London and Kent between 1792 and 1797 and describes the lives and loves of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marian.
The novel follows two young ladies to their new home, a modest house on the property of distant relatives, where they will experience love, romance and sadness. The philosophical solution of the novel is ambiguous: the reader must decide for himself whether reason and sensibility have really united.
