Summary
Vuk Stefanović Karadžić: Serbian folk songs
Book five, which contains heroic songs of recent times about Montenegrin warfare.
Karadžić, Vuk Stefanović, Serbian linguist, folklorist and ethnographer (Tršić, October 26, 1787 – Vienna, January 26, 1864). His merits for the Serbian language are indisputable: he introduced the living vernacular Shtokavian language into literature, reformed the Cyrillic alphabet, simplified spelling on a phonological basis, and applied the proclaimed principles in practice. Its spelling and "national language" were introduced by the Serbian government in 1868, after Karadžić's death.
