Abu Ali Ibn Sina Avicenna: Book of instructions and notes
The first Croatian translation of Avicenna's most complete philosophical writings, written between 1030 and 1034. The parts of the writings in which the author presents his ideas are titled "isharat" (instructions), and the parts in which he critically considers and re-examines the ideas of some of his (unnamed) predecessors and contemporaries and some established opinions are titled "tanbihat" (remarks). Deliberate lapidary, brevity and stinginess in presentation make the work difficult to understand. The original of the translation is the edition of Avicenna's writings prepared in Leyden in 1892 by Forget comparing nine different manuscripts. The translator Daniel Bučan (who also wrote an extensive preface) translates Arabic terminology with Croatian philosophical terminology that is not necessarily connected with Latinized terms. By thus translating the meaning of the word, it also translates the linguistic expression, which makes the translation particularly valuable.
