Summary
Mladen Nakić: The United States of America and the Global Environment
Writing about the security policy of the United States and its foreign policy always presents a kind of challenge.
The book critically searches for some fundamental historical settings of American foreign policy, but also analyzes the decision-making process and its participants. The fundamental question posed by the Americans themselves, as well as by well-intentioned critics, inevitably relates to questioning the expediency of using existing power.
The United States of America is the only remaining superpower that dominates our planet. Its dominance in international relations is recognized by some, respected by others, and others try to get at least a little closer to its military and overall national potentials and even threaten it. Often criticized for the unilateral use of its strength and power, part of the international community still wants to have friendly and allied relations with the USA. This is the basic intention of this book - to encourage thinking about power and strength in international relations, but also its justification and transience. This is precisely the starting point of my own belief that a critical approach to this problem is inevitable if one wants to realistically look at every aspect of American power and its global interests.
The book could be interesting to the professional public interested in American foreign and overall security policy, as well as to students and postgraduates of international relations, but also to the general public who feel the advantages and disadvantages of globalization and overall processes in the international community on a daily basis.
Working in the United States gave me an extraordinary opportunity to observe first-hand processes, their main factors, but also the consequences on American society and beyond. I am grateful to my colleagues at the Pentagon and the State Department for their excellent professional cooperation and friendly relationship.
Many people helped me directly and indirectly in writing and publishing the book. I am grateful to everyone, and I single out individuals in particular.
