Summary
Janko Kos: The Spiritual History of Slovenes
The studio work of academician Janko Kos (Ljubljana, 1931), a leading name in Slovenian comparative literature and literary theory, deals with the most important places in the spiritual history of Slovenians, especially literature as its focal point and point of contact with religion, philosophy, political-ideological currents, and with fine, musical, film and theater arts. At the same time, the author places the beginnings of the spiritual history of his compatriots in the early Middle Ages and follows its development by analyzing the historical development of the Slovenes as the development of four different types of historical community (tribal community-people, i.e. populace-people-nation), noting the unusual and special relationship between the populace, the people and the nation, as a community in which Slovenes united as Slovenes, and in such a way that the most primitive of these communities was preserved in later.
